5 Ways To Save Time When Using Social Media

By Leslie Hughes | June 25, 2013

Last week, I presented about “Social Media In The Next Decade” at the Chartered Business Valuators Conference in Ottawa.

I kicked of my talk to say that Social Media is no longer “the future of marketing” it’s the present of marketing.

Your business HAS to have a presence online because your clients are online.

I also recognize that you don’t have time in your busy day to add another thing on your “to do” list.

Here are the top 5 ways you can manage your time online:

  1. Stay focused on strategy and business objectives.
The clearer you are on where your audience is, what they want and how you can help them, the less you will flounder around.
  2. Limit your time online.
Social Media can be a “time suck” and one email, blog post, status update turns into another.
Dedicate time to log in 2x per day. Spend a few minutes checking in to see if you can respond, add an update, make a small change.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Making incremental, small changes will amount to a big change in the long run.
  3. Delegate but don’t abdicate
I believe that people buy from you because they know, like and trust YOU.
YOU should own your relationships and when engaging, you should be the one to respond.
But, you can delegate. Ask someone to help you build out what you wish to publish – whether it’s researching the latest research to publish as a status update, writing blog posts, setting up your publishing schedule.
Let me repeat: this does not mean you abdicate. You still have to be fully aware of what’s being published and you should be the one to respond with your connections.
  4. Keep it simple
We’re living in a 140 character world (that’s how much room you have to share on Twitter). Keep it short and sweet and eliminate overwhelm – both for you and for your prospective clients.
  5. Quality over quantity
Similar to point 4 – don’t just make “noise”. Make your voice heard by always providing quality information that your connections stop to pay attention to – every time!

So, what are YOUR tips for saving time?! Pass it forward by sharing one of your tips to someone who may be just starting out.  Share your thoughts in this blog (below).
