Tips on how to increase your response rate (engagement) on Facebook.
Did you know Facebook has an algorithm as to what content appears within someone’s feed?
Like optimizing your business in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Facebook has it’s own internal SEO called Edgerank.
Facebook pushes content to you depending on what they think is custom and personalized to you based on:
a) how often people interact with your page (including how often links are clicked on)
b) different types of content (comments, likes, pictures) have different scores
Comments are weighted higher than “likes”
Posts with links have greater weight than a simple status update.
c) recent, timely content
Some tips from awarenessnetworks.com:
- Post pictures that will evoke emotion and responses. (Remember, pictures say a thousand words!)
- Post questions and encourage responses.
- Post something controversial. Opinions generate a lot of buzz.
Buddy Media (via http://techsavvyagent.com) published a report to say the following tips help engagement:
- Keep posts short and sweet (under 80 characters)
- Keep long URLs instead of shortened ones (ie. bit.ly)
- Non-business hours had a 20% higher level of engagement
- Post closer to the end of the week (Thursday, Friday and on weekends)
- End your post with a question (as opposed to the beginning or middle)
Remember, less than 1% of people actually do engage, so stay the course. Not every post is going to elicit responses, but if people know, like and trust you, they are more likely to respond to the person behind the brand.
Two great examples of smaller businesses who get it right are Archibald Orchard and Winery and Buster Rhino’s. Both Facebook pages have passionate fans who regularly respond.
What Facebook pages do YOU think are great examples? You a passionate follower of any particular brand?
