Principle of Reciprocity: how will this affect social media campaigns?

By Leslie Hughes | December 22, 2009

Empowering brand ambassadors can positively influence a social media campaign and yet there is a challenge to find that delicate balance between “church vs state”.

Is it possible that bloggers will give kudos to products because they are being rewarded for doing so?
Does the Principle of Reciprocity have any influence on the results of the campaign?
Will brands choose specific bloggers who are more likely to showcase their product in a positive light?

Personally, I love the new world of social media and its potential for allowing consumer voices to be heard. I’m glad brands are finally waking up to the fact that *listening* to your customers is the best way to be sustainable in business.

In this new world of marketing, here’s hoping that trust and transparency prevail.
