Social Media marketing is no longer *just* for a Generation Y audience
Brian Solis always has a LOT of great information to share about Social Media. In today’s blog post he’s posted the Estimated average age on social network sites in the U.S.
You can see in the chart below that Social Media marketing is no longer JUST for targeting Generation Y.
Facebook – 38.4 yrs old
Twitter – 39.1 yrs old
LinkedIn – 44.3 yrs old
And, as Baby Boomers move into retirement and have more leisure time, I presume you’ll see a huge growth in this area as well.
As Brian Solis* points out:
“The socialization of media and the democratization of influence is changing everything, from how consumers find places, products, and services, how and where they share their experiences, and eventually, where they will spend their time and money. Without an understanding of, or participation in, social networks, we are absent from shaping or contributing to the decision making process of those who define the health and success of our business. Yes, right now, decisions are made with or without us.
We can no longer ignore or minimize the changes unfolding before us. Everything begins without fully knowing what to do, why it’s important and whether or not we’re doing everything the right way. But it is in the process of that we learn and mature.”

If you haven’t got a strategy in place insofar as what you want to leverage Social Media for your business, it’s time to start thinking what is it you want.
Are you:
- Generating awareness?
- Establishing credibility?
- Motivating prospects into action?
- Providing customer service?
