How to ask for recommendations on LinkedIn
Did you know you need a minimum of three endorsements/recommendations to get to 100% of your LinkedIn profile?
Endorsements can help showcase your expertise and provide you with great credibility.
Not only will other people read wonderful things about you on your own page, but the testimonial also appears on the original source’s (aka writer’s) LinkedIn profile as well.
In addition to endorsing fabulous colleagues, I’ve also endorsed life-long friends who I know to be reliable and trustworthy.
Here is a basic tutorial about how to ask for an endorsement.
(Note, I have removed the name of the senders/recipients for privacy)
Step 1 Click the Recommendations link
Simply use the drop-down menu under the PROFILE tab. Scroll down to RECOMMENDATIONS.
Step 2: Select Type
In this instance, I chose BUSINESS PARTNER even though I haven’t done business with this person. I’m endorsing their character, and will appear under the position they currently have.
Step 3: Ask to be endorsed
Click on the link that says “ASK TO BE ENDORSED”
Step 4: Choose who you’ll ask
Beside the red arrow, you will see a button that says IN. Click on that link to see the list of contacts you already have in your LinkedIn database.
Create your message, and click SEND.
LinkedIn’s note: Each recipient will receive an individual email. This will not be sent as a group email.
It will be sent out once to all the people you clicked on but it appears personal in the recipient’s email (see below).
Step 5: The Endorsement
The following picture is the LinkedIn message your recipient will receive.
The email they will receive looks like this:
Hopefully the recipient will click on the “WRITE RECOMMENDATION” button and write you a glowing review!
Step 6:
You will receive an email with the recommendation, and the notice will also appear in your “Inbox”
And
You then simply follow the link (as seen in the arrow above) to view the profile and post or ask the recipient to make any changes (if there is anything incorrect in the endorsement).
And the more endorsements you GIVE, the more your name and business will appear on other people’s walls.
Just be sure to only align yourself with quality people who you’d stake your professional career on.
Happy endorsing!
