Lots of new changes to Timeline and I see that business are NOT eager to “roll it over”.

This week on the Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/punchmediadotca) , I’ve been featuring a lot of companies who have already launched their Facebook cover timeline.

Be forewarned. There are a lot of rules about what you can and cannot use in your cover image:

  • You cannot include price or purchase info, such as 40% off or “Download it at our website”
  • You also cannot include contact information such as web address, email, mailing address or any other info intended for your About section on your Facebook page.
  • You cannot say “Like” or “Share” or any other Facebook site features.
  • You can’t use any calls-to-action “Get it Now”, “Tell Your Friends” or “Sign up here” etc.
  • It’s not meant for promotions, coupons or advertisements.
  • Your image should not be primarily text-based or infringe on anyone else’s copyright.

So there are LOTS of things you cannot do. What CAN you do?

  • Use an image that best represents your business/your brand.
  • Evoke some kind of emotion whenever possible.

Size: 399 pixels wide. The optimum size is 855 pixels wide x 350 pixels high.

Here’s one that I think is really well done:

You can use your “apps” buttons (photos, events, customer case studies, welcome) to create mini calls-to-actions.

(I have to admit, I’m sad the landing pages are now “apps”)

Have you seen really effective cover pages? I’d love to see them (or share them!)

P.S. If you’re looking for the creative “cheat sheet” , I’ve pinned this on on Pinterest
