Testimonials are the HOTTEST “Social Proof”
Recommendations are a sure-fire way to showcase yourself as a trusted expert in your niche.
Many people will look at your testimonials to see what other people have to say about you.
- Are you trustworthy
- Do you “know your stuff”
- Can you deliver results?
You sound like a braggart if you call yourself an expert, but if someone ELSE does, then people are more likely to trust what they have to say.
These testimonials are even BETTER when they come from your clients, your boss or your staff.
So how do you get started?
Write the testimonial FOR them and politely ask them if they would be so kind as to include it on LinkedIn.
(If you’ve ever had to write a testimonial, you know it’s challenging to get started, so do the “heavy lifting for them).
Here’s how:
STEP 1: Beneath your image, and beside the “View profile as” button, click on the dropdown menu and click on “Ask to be recommended”
Follow the wizard through the steps and choose the connection you’d like to receive a recommendation from.
STEP 2: Write them a personalized message that says:
Dear (name),
I’m in the process of updating my LinkedIn profile, and would love to include a testimonial from you. To make this process easier, I have written some draft copy below. Please feel free to change or re-write any of the copy to ensure it fits your “voice”.
I appreciate your time and assistance in advance.
Kindly yours,
(Your name)

I have worked with (your name) for over ______ years. During this time, s/he helped me ___________(include some of the issues or problems you helped to solve).
I have always found (your name) to be _____________(include your experience with him). I would recommend (your name) to anyone who needs assistance in (what you deliver).

STEP 3: Ask about 5 people for testimonials and tailor the message to each person. Be sure to change up the copy for each request so they don’t all look exactly the same.
STEP 4: “Spread the love”. I include testimonials on my RFPs/Quotes. I’ve uploaded them to my website.
