This is a post of someone’s nightly sleep pattern!

Every day, I see people posting that they just ran 10K (I don’t care)

Every day, I see people post that they just had a danish for breakfast (I don’t care)

Now people are posting their SLEEP HABITS? (I really don’t care!)

I LOVE Social Media. I love connecting with people. I love seeing photos and hearing about celebrations and accomplishments.

I see how Social Media can help make a BIG difference and that we are more connected than ever before.

But honestly, when is too much info….TOO MUCH INFO?

We are inundated with information.

This graphic shows just how much information is created EVERY MINUTE:

  • YouTube users upload 48 hours of new video
  • Google receives over 2 million search queries
  • Twitter users send over 100,000 tweets
  • Facebook users share 684,478 pieces of content

How Much Data Per Minute

Just because we CAN publish tons of information, doesn’t mean we should.

The key for connection isn’t posting the mundane, everyday nonsense; it’s publishing relevant information that connects emotionally.

Do we want to hear baby announcements from people we love? – YES!

Do we want to hear about someone we know who has received a new job or promotion? – YES!

Do we want to see people enjoying their weekends with family and friends? (Sometimes!)

What’s interesting to note, is that people are posting what they want us to see – NOT how life actually IS.

So this begs the question: Has Social Media turned many of us into narcissists?

This very interesting article on the Huffington Post: “Is Social Media to Blame for the Rise in Narcissism” says there is a rise in narcissism in millennials.

But I digress…..

Is it true? – Perhaps your sleep habits and danish ARE true. But no one cares

Is it helpful? – This one is important. You want to make sure the information is relevant to someone.

Is it inspiring?THIS is the stuff viral posts are made of!

Is it necessary? – Think about this one long and hard before you post.

Is it kind? – If only everyone could live by this value!
