Hey Big Spender!

Social Media users spend more money online.

This really shouldn’t be surprising since the heaviest users of Social Media are engaged. They are using platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to find out who provides the best deals and customer service.

In this (brave) new world of Social Media, customers have the power.

FACEBOOK

The “heavier” the Facebook user, the more money they spend. According to comScore, the top 20% of Facebook visitors spent an average of $67 as opposed to those who didn’t visit Facebook ($27) during the first quarter of 2010.

TWITTER

And Twitter users spent even MORE money with the medium Twitter user spending an average of $75.

Average Online Spending Among US Internet Users, by Time Spent on Twitter, Q1 2010

According to Quantcast.com, the US demographics of Twitter users see:

  • 45% male / 55% female
  • 45% ages 18 to 34
  • 69% Caucasian
  • 53% no kids / 47% has kids
  • 30% earn $100K +
  • 49% no college education

The key takeaway from these statistics reinforce that ALL businesses need to be *engaging* with their prospects and customers.

Remember – it’s not about PUSH marketing anymore. Don’t let your Twitter/Facebook presence be just another example of brochure-ware.

Listen. Engage. Convert.

Your customers want to feel important. They want to be heard.  They have plenty of resources and do their research to find the best quality and service.

Today an unhappy customer can influence thousands of people. And, the majority of unhappy customers won’t complain at all; they just won’t do business with you again.

The good news is, if you can resolve a complaint quickly, there is a 96% chance you can convert that dissatisfied customer into a happy, loyal one.

As I’ve said before:  Listen. Engage. Convert. (Test & Repeat).
