How to get around LinkedIn Inmail

2019 Update: You can no longer send messages via Groups this way. Please read on if you’re interested in learning more about the benefits of LinkedIn’s InMail

There are many terrific advantages you can take advantage of by investing in a Premium LinkedIn Account:

  • You can do a much deeper dive in your research
  • You rank higher in LinkedIn Search
  • You gain much deeper access to insights such as “Who’s viewed your profile”
  • You can leverage the power of InMail

Quite a few people I know who use the LinkedIn Premium Accounts – LOVE it. The key here is that you have to be actively using it and converting business to obtain your return on investment.

One new client is worth the $39.99 – $119.99 CDN per month* may be worth the investment (*based on your package).

LinkedIn InMail is one of the most popular features for the Premium accounts. It allows you to send a private message to any one of the 575 million LinkedIn members (2018).

One person told me they use LinkedIn InMail to reach out to high-level decision-makers that otherwise (probably) wouldn’t respond. They were able to reach a high profile executive through this channel, and bypass many of his ‘gatekeepers’, because the InMails allow you to include a longer message than the 300 characters you are allowed in the standard Connection request.

Did you know that you can send people messages WITHOUT investing in a Premium Account?

Send a message via LinkedIn Groups. Here’s how:

Step #1: Visit the profile page of your “dream” connection. (You may have to use the search function to find them first)

Step #2: Scroll down their profile to see which LinkedIn Groups they have joined.

Step #3: Join one of the groups, or click on a Group you both share

Step #4: In the top navigation bar of the Groups, click on “Members”

Step #5: Beneath the Group Member’s profile, click on “Send message”

Et voila!

Please do NOT use this as an opportunity to spam people with sales messages. You’re going to want to nurture the relationship before you ask for the sale. You typically wouldn’t hand over your business card and scream: BUY MY STUFF!

“Always treat prospective clients in the way that you would want to be treated.” Click here to tweet

You can certainly test out the Premium accounts before you fully invest in a plan to see if it’s useful for you. Simply click on the “Try Premium for free” link in the top right hand side of your navigation bar.

Now it’s YOUR turn: Have you had success in converting business using the Groups section or because you’ve invested in a Premium account?

Not impressed with basically being ‘forced’ to HAVE TO use a free monthly trial that I am NOT interested in order to send another LinkedIn member a messsge. Very shitty tactic.

If the other LinkedIn member is a connection of yours, then you can send them a message directly. If you’re not a member, then you can try to connect with them (send a personalized message) using the free account. The Premium account levels have a lot of value if you’re using it for job searching or sales prospecting. LinkedIn has been quite good with notifying its users when the free trial is almost over so they can cancel their membership. At the end of the day, LinkedIn is also a business who has a responsibility to its shareholders to make money, so I can understand why they would throttle some of their functionality for their Premium members.

I’m looking for a simple way to connect with my linkedin account by just giving my password. It doesn’t seem to work. I’m told I have messages. I’d like to type in a password and have it there at all times so all I have to do is click into my messages.

Please tell me how to make that happen.

    Thank you. Rochelle Ford

I would like to put in my password and see my Linkedin messages. I’d like my password to stay in there at all times so I don’t have to go through many hoops to get into my account. I always have trouble and never get in with my password. I’m 84 years old and want to simplify the process as much as possible. Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

    Rochelle

I would like a simple way to check into Linked in & get my messages. I want to put in my password and only click once to get my messages. Right now, it’s too complicated. I’m 84 years old and don’t have the time, energy, know-how to jump through hoops to get into my information. Please advise. Thank you in advance for your help.

I think you can get around this by using the “give kudos” function. The kudos looks like it is sent as a regular message but I don’t get blocked in the same manner.

Interesting. I’ll have to check this out.
