Twitter is what’s called a “micro-blog”.

With a 140 character limit, you’re able to connect and converse with anyone who also has an account (aka a “handle).

While it’s got its own subculture and language, and may even seem very stupid at first, once you start to connect with people, you’ll find that you’re meeting new people and learning new things.

The best way to use Twitter as a metaphor is that it’s like people around a watercooler.

Some people may be having conversations about the show they are watching. Some people are talking sports. Some people are talking business.

But one thing is for sure…..people are talking.

And unlike Facebook, which is just for friends or LinkedIn, which is just for business, Twitter is a mixture of everything.

Without doing a deep dive into this site (that could take hours), here is a top level overview of how you can use Twitter for your business:

1. Connect with strangers/build alliances
2. Promote your brand
3. Create buzz – events, promotions, free trials
4. Customer relations
5. Crisis management
6. Issue/charity advocacy and awareness
7. Increasing sales (use sales messages sparingly!)
8. Track what people are saying about your busines.
9. Calls-to-action to other content you’ve created
10. Create relationships with journalists and influential people
In the following video, you’ll learn the 3 basic steps you need to get started.
