Lists happen to be one of the most powerful tools in Facebook.

In a previous blog, we outlined how to set up lists and how to optimize your privacy so your personal connections can be kept separate from your business connections.

Did you know that you can instantly send a message ONLY to people in a specific list?

Let’s say you have a group named “Business List” and you want to update your business contacts with a specific message.

From your Inbox, select the “Compose” button and enter the name of your Friend List into the “To” field.

For the example I’ve listed below, I’ve attempted to send a mass email to a group list I’ve named ACI. I simply created a new message, and then typed the letter “A” to find the name of the list I had created.

Simply add the content your message, link to any specific sites/videos etc and click send.

Caveats:

1. You will not be able to send a message to any Friend List that contains over 20 people.

2. The message will show all the recipients’ names, but the actual name/title of your Friend List will never be visible to other members of Facebook.

This is not working for me. When I type in the name of the list, nothing comes up and it goes away…

Thanks for your comment. This functionality was available in 2010 (when the blog post was written). Facebook changes regularly so tips done in 2010 may not be viable today. Sorry 🙁
